International week 3.–8. September: New season ahead

 TOTAL SCORE 0W – 0L

Intro and recap: Hello and welcome back to a new season of football. Sorry I didn’t make a post for some of the last big games of the previous season, but now its all about the new season. Next week is the start of the English Premier League, but before that we explore another passion of mine – International football. After an awfully long break from international football the national teams are ready to kickstart a new season on the Nations League. Due to the big break it might be hard to access some of the teams, but I will relish at the challenge. Another issue seems to be players dropping from teams, due to positive COVID tests, so that might cause some changes in the squads. Let’s get this season started!

I have four games for the international weekend picked out. There were plenty of interesting games, but I just did not find a good bet for them. First game is on Friday between Norway and Austria. I was thinking that Norway might be the favorite with their rising stars in Odegaard and Håland, but their home record is not that impressive against teams of similar level. There is also a high chance of a draw, but some itch just pushes me to go with Austria picking up a win.

Next, I have North Macedonia beating Armenia. Based on their home form North Macedonia seem to beat smaller teams at home. Armenia was in the same Euro qualification group with Finland last year and they did not look good at all. Because of that I am going with North Macedonia for the W.

Denmark-Belgium game is up next, and I will be following this game with great interest as both teams are in the same Euro group as Finland for the next summers Euro’s. Belgium are a powerhouse and a potential frontrunner for the whole tournament, and I am picking them to win with a very good odd of 1.85. Denmark’s best player Eriksen has barely played since his move away from Tottenham in January and I think that is going to show greatly in their play as a whole.

Final game on the docket is Portugal taking on Croatia. Two very well performing teams from the last several years. Here the thing I think is that Croatia’s golden generation is starting to get older, while Portugal has a new generation pushing through with stars like Bruno Fernandes from Manchester United.

As a JOKER I picked an exciting match between Netherlands and Poland. Netherlands have been improving rapidly with their new generation of stars like Van Dijk and De Jong, even reaching the Nations League final last time around. Still Poland has the best striker in the world at the moment in Lewandowski, he should be alone enough to give Poland a chance to take the game, so with the beefy odds of 7.45 I am putting some money on this.
